Offbeatmammal: Could Photosynth change the face of classified advertising?

  • JJ · 6 months ago
Wow, pathetic that it's got a Microsoft parking permit in it still...

Pathetic. why? I work there and was messing around to create this synth to see how easy it was.

you're a doorknob for thinking that makes the author's point meaningless.

It's a good concept, most Craigslist postings don't have more than small photos. Typical Microsoft - most of 'em in Redmond drive 911's, 335i's, and I guess Mustang's... Who buys cars in this economy that isn't paid $120k?

hey - I may work at MS but there's no way I can afford a 911 ;) The Mustang appealed to me because it's a great car, an American classic (although I'm a Brit I love the heritage and history of the Pony Cars) but most of all it's great value. I got it second hand - just before the gas prices went through the roof - and I use the bus most days for work.

Will be interesting to see if anyone tries this out for real...

The 2 worthless comments aside, I think this is a great idea. The problem I have with PhotoSynth is that the demos provide such interesting results - a smooth large canvas made up of smaller pictures - yet in reality, I've never been able to achieve that. I'm not sure if there are techniques involved (ala Photoshop) or just that the demos were "perfect" conditions.

Even so, melding multiple pictures together into a synth does have higher value than just random snapshots. The question is, do classified ads let you do this? (eBay, Craigslist, etc)

    thanks ;)

I agree that there's some work to do with Photosynth to make it really intuative - I'd love to see the team add the ability to provide hints where in a 3D space photos should go so you can control the flow around a synth better... but that's what feedback at the http://photosynth.net forums is for ;)

I've not found a service providing this for eBay or Craigslist yet - though you can link out to a synth from a listing. I'd love to see an enterprising 3rd party develop an eBay app to wrap a synth so you can embed them directly in a listing like some of the other slideshow / image viewers

actually its a nice concept, but the only problem is loading time. :(
i think the slide show is still the best choice
